Monika and I met in 2011 when we both lived on the East Coast. We bumped into each other at a weekend course in New York City while we were fulfilling our au pair education requirements. One day I started talking to her in English knowing that she’s Polish and I remember how annoyed she was by that. We both joke about it now.
Even though we finished our au pair experience, we both ended up in California, married, and still keep in touch. As the matter of fact, Monika was one of the first person to visit me and cooked for me when I had my baby girl. That is why I think of her a staunch (and yes, I had to look up that word). When I think of Monika, I think how different we are yet how amazingly loyal and committed she is. She has always been a hard-worker – having a couple of jobs and giving her best to others. We may not share the passion for clothing or make-up but we surly share passion for intimacy and relationships.
What I admire about Monika the most is that when you get to know her you realize how direct, intimate, and reliable she is. I feel so comfortable sharing my deepest secrets with her and know she won’t make a big deal out of it. She is like a sister that you can be yourself around and get annoyed by sometimes, haha. And at the end of the day, no matter what kind of differences there would be, or difficult situations, you know she will always be there – staunch.
